Now that summer is upon us, it's time to pay attention to our furry four footed friends when running, hiking, playing and doing all those summer time activities. We don't want to have Fido over heat and experience heat exhaustion or heat stroke, so keep an eye on several signs and act immediately if you see these.
- Rapid Panting
- Skin inside the ear reddens
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Disoriented or confused
- May walk like they're drunk or lethargic
- Refusal to drink
- Temperature of 105 degrees or higher
Remember not to leave them in the car as it turns into an oven very quickly; and when on hikes, be sure to have enough food and water for both you and Fido to replenish both your energy throughout the hike. Keep an eye on dog pads if running on hard surfaces to ensure the surface isn't causing their pads to blister, a very painful occurrence.
The FIDO site is chock full of great information on upcoming events; open space, mountain park links and other Boulder dog links; along with a history of the organization. There are also quick links to Dog Parks and Open Space in Boulder County where you and your dog(s) can play off leash! To get your Voice & Sight Tag, read through the information, watch the video and register!
